Newborn Screening

----- Have you done Newborn Screening when you gave birth to your child...?

----- How is it important to do this kind of test to your child...?

When I'm doing a prenatal check up on my first child, I've been wondering what is a Newborn Screening all about... and then the doctors explained that Newborn Screening is essential for newborn babies... because in this test you could know if your baby have some health issues. So as long as they are still a baby you could prevent it from worsening or get them treated...

When I gave birth to my son on the 9th day of January, I immediately scheduled him for the Newborn Screening on the next day... his pedia get his blood samples for the screening... screenings take some time to be done so they ask us to wait a month for the result... but after 3weeks his pedia gave us a call because of the test done... she told us to drop by her office to get the results... as we came to her office she explained to us that my Ishi need to undergo another test because base on the screening he's positive with Glucose-6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency  or G6PDD... so my Ishi need another test to confirm if he's really positive with that health condition. She instruct us to take the confirmatory test next day which will be taken at Newborn Screening Reference Center located at U.P. Manila. There they extract a 5cc blood sample from my Ishi... after that they told us to get the result next week...

I got the result and let my baby's pedia explain it to us... She say that based on the result my baby is positive with G6PDD it is a hereditary health condition that cause chronic anemia, brain damage or death if you are exposed to substances which are contraindicated... this type of health condition can't be treated but it can be prevented from worsening... So she gave us instructions and list what are contraindicated with my son.... The list includes Food, Medicines and any other substances that he shouldn't intake or exposed with...

My son is 6months old now, despite his health condition you could say he's a healthy baby boy... Being guided with the doctors information and all the research I take to learn more about his health condition, I'm blessed and thankful to God that he wasn't getting sick... Providing him all that he needs and taking the rest of my time taking care of him, I'm sure he won't be feeling like he have health problem at all...

Many moms and moms to be need to consider this test be done for their child so each and everyone of us will be aware if our children are living a healthy lifestyle...

Chicco for my Ishi...

All Mommies out there...
check this out...

I use Chicco feeding bottles for my Ishi Baby and I find it very appropriate for my little boy... I feed my son for about 5times in 6hours... I don't know why he's that hungry but maybe because he have a half foreign blood and he's bigger than his age so he need more milk in his tummy... hahaha...

I love using Chicco for my Ishi because he never had gas pains since I use it too him... Before I use some brands of feeding bottles but he always get fussy because of flatulence... and sometimes I noticed that because of his suction on the nipples it got airless and suck his mouth and stuck covering his mouth and nose, maybe if I wasn't there he will not be able to breath... Now that I've learned my lessons I switch with Chicco feeding bottles it's very stylish, there no chance that my baby get stuck on his bottle and my baby doesn't get colic any more... yipeee...!!!

Chronicles of a Nursing Mom

Why I made this blog???

I'm a wide reader and net surfer... I'm interested joining sites about parenting... since I'm a single parent and I can't really rely on my mom all the time in terms of how to take care of my child, because she's also a working mom and she left us taken care by our yaya's... She guide me in some ways in taking care of my baby, but all the major fact of being a mom... I learned it in the net, talking with each and every moms that are pro's in taking care of their children.

We are siblings of four, I got one brother the eldest and two sisters. I'm the third child of my family. Each of us got a yaya since we we're babies, but when my youngest sister and I learn how to go to school by our own, my mom decided not to hire a yaya anymore. My mom work's in the government, until now. So her time for us is also based on the work time in a government office, 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday and sometime Saturday's as well if they have a medical mission.

My childhood together with my youngest sister also runs with my mom's work. I'm a year older with my youngest sister but my mom enrolled us to the same school and same year level, she also enrolled us to the nearest school from her office. She did this so when we will go to school she'll be the one to take us there and when our class is finish we go to her office to stay there til she finish her work or the other way around we go to school and she pick us up there...We study in a public school that have morning and afternoon class sessions, unlike my older brother and sister that study in a private schools.

Having this childhood memories remind me how our mom manage to do her job and take care of her children. And I forgot to tell you all that she plays the both role of mom and dad, because my dad have another family but he supports us financially and sometimes he spend time with us when he went home from his work abroad also. But all the physical and emotional support that all children need from their parents is given to us by our Super and Best Ever Mom...

Now I'm a mom as well, I will show everyone out there how a Working Single Momma do the work...

About Me....

I'm an OFW, I worked as a waitress in a French fine dining restaurant in Dubai, UAE. But then I got pregnant, my son's father is a Syrian and he's Muslim and we're not yet married (haven't thought of it yet), and according to the law of UAE it's punishable to live together if your not married and worst if you got pregnant so I need to went home.

Now I'm a mompreneur and full time mom to my baby boy Ishi or Naz Siraj Rishi (his full name), til I found a new job abroad. It's hard to think to leave my son behind, but what can I do all the best paid jobs are abroad.
